The Serra da Canastra National Park, one of the most important Brazilian parks, was crested in 1972 to shelter the São Francisco River spring. The Canastra region has 200 thousand hectares and covers 6 municipalities: São Roque de Minas, Vargem Bonita, Delfinópolis, Sacramento, São João Batista do Glória and Capitólio.

Little Delfinópolis is famous for having over 150 waterfalls, its located in southwest Minas Gerais, and is considered the southern entrance portal to the Serra da Canastra Natural Park, where the São Francisco River is born.
